2 A RICH TUDORS DIET The diet of the rich involved a lot of meat. They ate a variety of meats including Pork, Beef, Mutton, Swan and Duck etc. But the rich didn’t just eat meat. They ate pastries, fruits(a few), dairies and more. The rich ate their meat in many different ways. They ate it in pies. They ate it Stuffed. They ate it roast, baked, boiled and stewed. And not only did they eat the meat in different ways. They ate different parts of animals. They ate the breast (chest)of animals, the rump(bottom), shoulder, trotters(feet), ears, wings and tongue. The rich ate quite a few pastries such as tarts, pasties and cakes. Most of the pastries were probably desserts. There were other desserts such as Gingerbread, Pears in Honey Syrup and Cream of Almonds which were non-pastry dishes. Although fruits and vegetables were said to be peasants food some rich people tended to eat fruit. For instance some rich people ate Gooseberry tart and Pears in Honey Syrup(see above). Here is a list of fruits that rich people might have eaten: Gooseberries Pears Strawberries Figs Apples Fact Box About 75% of the rich Tudor diet was meat! Did you know? The Vegetables that grow on the surface were only eaten by the rich. Did you know that Henry VIII liked Strawberries! Onions, Leeks and Garlic

3 A POOR TUDORS DIET The poor did not have much to eat. The food that they did eat was very different to what the rich ate. For instance, the poor did not eat meat-unlike the rich-because they could not afford it, and all the poor would normally eat would be Vegetables. The poor would probably have Vegetables for every meal and possibly some bread as well. They would have been really lucky if they got eggs and especially lucky if they got meat(Though they would have had to scavenge for it). Here is a list of common, lower-class Tudor food: Cabbage Carrots Parsnips Bread Butter Eggs Pottage But one natural thing ruins their life………………..weather! If it it is raining heavily then the crops would drown. If it was too hot the crops would dry out. And if it was snowing, the crops would freeze. This means that the poor has to plant their crops at exactly the right time…………….Spring!
