There are a couple of ways to use this slide, depending on how much technology you have in your classroom. You can have students find answers on their own, divide them into teams to have them do all the questions competitively, or have each team find the answer to a different question and then come back together. If you’re doing teams, it is often wise to assign them roles (one person typing, one person who is in charge of sharing back the answer, etc.)

Veterans' Day (originally Armistice Day) was first celebrated as the date of a truce (or armistice) in World War I. They day didn’t' officially become Veterans Day until 1954 and then it was meant to honor only World War I veterans. As the years went on, people decided to honor all US. veterans on November 11th.

At exactly 11 a.m., each November 11th, a color guard, made up of members from each of the military branches, renders honors to America's war dead during a ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknowns in Arlington National Cemetery. The President or his representative places a wreath at the Tomb and a bugler sounds Taps. Students should pull together the information gathered to understand what is being celebrated today. Veterans' Day is a holiday on which we honor those who have served in the armed forces. Originally, it started as Armistice Day on November 11th, 1918 when an armistice (or stop) of combat occurred between the Allied forces and Germany in the First World War. Years later, Armistice Day turned into Veterans' Day to commemorate the veterans of World War I. Later, the holiday was expanded to honor and celebrate all veterans.
