Lecture Objectives: Photo Voltaic & Solar Hot Water Systems
Discuss HW3 Final Project
2
Internal Energy Loads New single family 2262 sf, 2-story home
3
Energy consumption in Austin’s residential house
4
You need to Modify Project 1
Modify Internal Loads Installed power and usage profile Lighting Miscellaneous Occupancy and fresh air requirement Loaner how to assign number of occupants
5
Other eQUEST issues Solar radiation calculation (detailed resuts)
System – zone assignment Infiltration vs. ventilation (number of occupants) Internal loads (schedule) Operation time - seasons Thermostat setpoint ….
6
PV system Silicon crystal base Tin film
7
Hot Water Solar
8
Final project topics: Software (eQUEST, or BeOpt, EnergyPlus) based
Your model bases (modeling in Matlab like in HWs 1&2) Energy analysis of building form Integrated design course Any other building or building system Impact of thermal mass on high rise buildings Residential commercial building optimization for different climate Thermostat reset impact …. Detail Modeling (your model) Heat recovery systems, Attic problem, Mass transfer (moisture,…) ….. Your ideas…

Requirement for the project
Undergrad students: Team project (3 members) Grad students: Individual effort Submit latest today afternoon: Final project group members Project title One paragraph ( words) about the project Meetings on today afternoon and tomorrow to define: - Project objective Methodology Expected results

Example project
11
Example projects UT campus buildings
Many (buildings and) issues that need to be resolved Good support Available data People

Final project deliverables
1) DETAIL PROJECT DESCRIPTION Due: November 15th You should provide 1-2 page project description with objective, scope, and expected results list. You can include schematics and drawings. 2) PROJECT REPORT: (6-10 pages) December 5th - Project statement (introduction) 1-2 pages Explain what are you designing/analyzing and why is that important Clearly identify (bullet list) project outcomes - Building (modeled) description 1-2 pages Schematics that show details on your system(s) Identify all assumptions and simplifications you introduced - Methodology 1-2 pages Describe methodology (equations, software, schematics, …) Provide a list of assumptions used in your methodology - Results 3-5 pages Formatted results with comments Tables, Charts, Diagrams, …(each followed by explanation) Analysis and Results discussion - Conclusion page Summary of most important results 3) PRESENTATION December 5th
