4. DEVELOPING NORMS
Each person on the team reads the ideas from the handout—p.211 in Learning by Doing by DuFour, DuFour, Eaker, and Many
2. Jot down norm ideas as you read (you don’t have to have 1 for every category)
3. Then choose your top 5 and copy on to post- its (1 norm per post-it)
7-10 minutes

4. Put all 5 ideas from everyone on chart paper and group like ideas together
Divide into groups to work on each cluster of ideas
Discuss each one, making sure you reach consensus on operational definitions
Write a norm for each category
The first person will put their post its up on different pieces of chart paper. Each person after will group their ideas with similar ones or start a new piece of chart paper. When everyone has posted, we’ll divide into the number of groups we need for each piece of chart paper. (15-20 minutes)

6. DEVELOPING NORMS
Review—then post in the room where meetings take place
Go over them at each meeting and make adjustments as needed—these belong to no one but you!
