2. Starter: Siting a Settlement
Read the description and draw a picture of the site required, annotate your drawing explaining why the natural advantages were chosen. Remember this site has been untouched by humans so there are no human features there.

3. Perfect Site – Why? Good views from the hill.
Good aspect, hill for shelter.
Rock for building materials
Trees for building materials and fuel.
Flat land for farming.
River water for cooking, drinking and washing.

5. Look at road layout – straight (linear, grid iron pattern) or wide crescent shapes and cul de sacs?
What is the land used for? Factories? Housing? Leisure? Shops? Public buildings? Open space?
Compare the sizes and density of the buildings – are there many or few buildings in an area?
How are buildings arranged? Attached to each other? Separated? Any gardens, open space?
