2. INTRODUCTION Development of aquaculture industry in Aceh, Indonesia
Most the fish target in aquaculture are alien species
The fish target should be swift to local (native species) which have higher economic value
Tor is one of the promising candidate for aquaculture
Information on bio-ecology of native species is crucial prior to use for aquaculture
This information is useful for developing culture technology: feeding, breeding and rearing etc.

3. DIVERSITY OF THE GENUS TOR
Mahseer is The Kings of the rivers, and Fish of God’ (Kiat, 2004);
A total of 20 species of Tor in Asia.
At least 4 species in Indonesia: Tor soro, T. tambra, T. douronensis and T. tambroides.
At least three species of Tor in Aceh: Tor soro, T. tambra, T. tambroides.
Local name: tambra, sapan, semah, pedih, gegaring, keureling, jurong etc.
