Botswana A presentation by Y4R

Botswana- Facts Around 38% of the country’s surface is dedicated to national parks, reserves and wildlife management areas. Going on safari is a great idea! Botswana is not the cheapest tourist destination to travel to. However, their policy is “High quality, low impact”. Not many other tourists! English is the official language of the country, it is taught at schools, and is widely spoken in all urban centres. Even in rural areas, many local villagers (especially younger ones who have received schooling) will be able to converse in English However, Setswana is the national language and the most spoken language throughout the country. If you want a head start, you can buy a Setswana lesson pack for £24.99!

Food The main meal is generally eaten at lunchtime and leftovers or bread are eaten at dinner. The national dish of Botswana is called Seswaa. This consists of a meat stew served over thick polenta or pap. The stew is made by boiling meat with onion and pepper. Adding anything else is considered insulting! The dish is quite bland and should suit unadventurous eaters as the general population is considered quite poor.

Safari We decided a safari would be the best way to see Botswana and its natural beauty. As a guest, you will have access to private and exceptionally remote wildlife- viewing opportunities. Moremi Game Reserve, on the edge of the Okavango Delta, is an exhilarating tract of woodlands and wetlands favoured by enormous bull elephants, herds of buffalo and prides of lion! Travel by poled mokoro within the delta’s maze of channels to see hippo, crocodile, water-adapted antelope like red lechwe and hundreds of birds.

Safari continued In the Savute and Linyanti marshlands, day and night game drives are offered from isolated camps located in private groups Chobe National Park is famed for elephants, hundreds of which congregate along the Chobe River. If you feel that this is unfair on the animals, Botswana is one of Africa’s conservation success stories by preserving habitats and tight limits on visitor numbers are helping to ensure the vitality of the natural resources needed for thriving wildlife populations. You will stay in a hotels at the beginning and end of the trip, in between you will be staying in either a tent or campervan. Going on safari in Botswana is very exclusive!
