2 Virgil (Publius Vergilius Maro )
Wrote the Aeneid, which was about Rome’s founding, on a commission from Emperor Augustus.

3 Catullus Lived from 84 B.C. to 54 B.C. and wrote many love poems and other poems against those he opposed.

4 Tacitus (Publius Cornelius Tacitus )
Roman historian that documented several Roman Emperors after Augustus through his books Annals and Histories.

5 Cato the Elder Also called the Censor whose only remaining work is De Agricultura. He supported strict laws traditional Roman ways of thinking.

6 Cicero (Marcus Tullius Cicero)
Famous Roman orator and lawyer who also wrote books on laws, gods, and the republic also.

7 Juvenal (Decimus Junius Juvenalis)
Satirist who coined the phrase panem et circenses, or bread and circuses, to describe the Roman people seemed most interested in.

8 Ovid (Publius Ovidius Naso)
Poet who wrote Metamorphoses and Fasti, which were, respectively, about myths involving transformations and religious events.

9 Horace (Quintus Horatius Flaccus)
Wrote satires and other books criticizing society as well as poems not relating to politics. Odes was his most famous work and it was about common customs.

10 Seneca the Younger (Lucius Annaeus Seneca)
Famous Stoic writer who wrote Oedipus, Hercules Furnes, and Troades.

11 Pliny the Younger (Gaius Plinius Caecilius Secundus)
Recounted Mount Vesuvius’s eruption in a letter and went on to hold several notable jobs.
