2000/ /5 extended to 2006/7 – centre of excellence ( World Class) Increase in enrolment to 50,000 - general Increased access Introduce new programmes Income generation and support to increase the financial resource base of university 2002- Study to analyse the consequences of increased enrolments

Issues to note Global enrollmnet plan ( across all disciplines)
Challenge of matching the plan to practice Fluctuations in enrolment by discipline specifically ICT and Engineering- keeping the University within the HERANA range of 40% Fluctuations by levels- PhDs have grown faster than Masters Research projects attach PhD students and not Masters New Doctoral programmes emerge Has a bearing on staff qualifications and research output

The facilities are cannot accommodate more numbers Research project tend to favor sciences More staff at Senior ranks with the exception of Engineering

Graduation data Graduation trend is aligned to enrolment trend-(efficiency) Need for cohort analysis The gender factor needs to be considered- at entry we have more boys at graduation its at par Tracer studies and external efficiency-

Academic Staffing SP highlights the increase of staffing levels
Use of Graduate Assistants Vs Teaching Assistants Policy on PhD for all lecturers – entry levels - this has increased the number of PhDs Improved information management No specific incentive to lecturers- promotion BUT Liberal policy on projects ( implicit incentive) Attrition rates with new universities – different academic requirements to professorship. Policy of retirement at 60 yrs-

High level knowledge Capacity development targeting doctoral programs especially with support from donors Increased staff with PhDs- enhance both current and future doctoral enrolments Good completion in donor supported doctoral programs compared to those on self-sponsored. High dropout rates for doctoral students who have no financial support- [ Not a performance indicator] SP target for graduate students was 20 %

Research Publications - Plans
All doctoral students must publish 2 papers before graduation SP highlights that each college should start peer reviewed journal Have a DR & GT and propose to elevate the directorate Mak Publishes both an annual report and fact-book that highlights research publications Was used by University and Government mainly for public relations- narratives have begun to change
