The Potential of RTV “reality television has the potential to tell compelling stories in ways that enlighten audiences, subvert conversion, and defy expectations…” (Pozner, 2010, p. 265). Opportunity for diverse casts (Andrejevic, 2004; Andrejvic & Colby, 2006; Ouellete & Murray, 2009; Pozner, 2010; Pullen, 2004). Democratic potential for audiences and participants (Andrejevic, 2004; Biressi & Nunn, 2005; Holmes, 2004; Ouellette & Murray, 2009).

Power of RTV RTV educates audiences about social issues, different phenomenon, people, and how to handle various situations in everyday life (Andrejevic, 2004; Biressi & Nunn, 2005; Kraszewski, 2009; Ouellette & Hay, 2008; Pozner, 2010). Johnston (2006) – some viewers believe constructed reality over own lived reality. Stereotypes still present (Cavender et. al, 1999; Dubrofsky & Hardy, 2008; Pullen, 2004).

RTV = meeting its potential?
