1 HiRISE: HiTranslate Project Marks One Year of Success
HiRISE, at the University of Arizona, started its HiTranslate Project in March 2011, to find volunteers to help translate our weekly captions into as many languages as possible. We started with a combined 300 translated captions in Spanish, Italian and Greek. As of March 1, 2012, we have over 1,600. In addition to wallpaper, we offer HiSlides for use in classes, along with audio versions of captions for the visually impaired. We have added a new Portuguese section, and the French version of the HiRISE site will be available March 7, beginning with 60 captions. We will be adding Dutch, along with Czech/Slovak and Hebrew. A great number of our translations feature audio and video as well. This represents the work of over 25 active volunteers across the world, collaborating with HiRISE to bring Mars to those with little-to-no English skills. The Project demonstrates NASA’s commitment to education and public outreach on an international scale. 1 1 UAHIRISE.ORG March 1, 2012
