Capitalization for First Grade

Definitions: Noun: A person, place or thing.
Example: friend, school, or classroom Proper Noun: A PARTICULAR person, place or thing. Example: Rachael, McDonalds, or Eiffel Tower

Rules: ALWAYS capitalize the word, “I”! *I enjoy the outdoors.
ALWAYS capitalize proper nouns. *My friend’s name is Jackie. ALWAYS capitalize beginning words of a sentence. *Remember to eat your vegetables.

More Rules: Always capitalize the names of countries and languages.
*We live in America and speak English. Always capitalize the first letter of the days of the week and months of the year. *Today is Wednesday, October 12, 2011.

Let’s play a game: We are going to join Roy the Zebra to help Zara’s dreams come true. We have to capitalize some letters to make sentences correct and identify proper nouns! Let’s go! (
