1 State Mandated Fitness Testing Introduction

2 Fitness Tests Physical Performance Tests (PFT) are mandated by the State of California for students in 7th grade. Healthy Fitness Zones Students must achieve the Healthy Fitness Zone (HFZ) in all 6 categories: Cardiovascular Fitness Abdominal Strength and Endurance Upper Body Strength and Endurance Flexibility Trunk Strength and Flexibility Body Composition

3 Cardiovascular Fitness
1 Mile Run 4 Laps Must Finish (no stopping) PACER Test 20 Meters Run in a straight line Each time across is considered ONE lap. If you do not make it to the line a 2nd time, the test is over. VIDEO

4 Abdominal Strength and Endurance
Curl-Ups Lie flat on mat Fingertips at start of tape Slide hands 4.5 inches to edge of mat Follow cadence Head MUST touch mat in between each rep Heels must stay on the floor VIDEO

5 Upper Body Strength and Endurance
Push-ups 90 Degree Angle in elbows Stay on cadence If any part of your body other than hands or feet touch the ground, the test is over Proper form throughout entire test

6 Flexibility Shoulder Stretch Both left and right arms will be tested
Fingers must touch in back each time Fingers Touch = PASS (Yes) Fingers do not touch = FAIL (No)

7 Trunk Strength and Flexibility
Trunk Lift Lie Flat on mat Hands beneath thighs Feet must stay in contact with the ground Eyes on object Slowly Lift up using Upper Back No greater than 12 inches Measure at Chin VIDEO

8 Body Composition Height and Weight BMI (Body Mass Index)
Height, in Feet and Inches Weight in pounds Height and weight used to calculate Body Mass Index (BMI) BMI (Body Mass Index) Used to calculate healthy body weight for your height.
