5. Why FAITH 2017?
After Brexit we devised a six-month programme of activities to foster community cohesion and highlight that “We are far more united and have far more in common with each other than the things that divide us.”

Faith 2017 was devised to inspire young people to be compassionate, responsible citizens able to listen to others, discover common values and work together in their communities.

We worked with different faith traditions to demonstrate how our school can be a force for the Common Good.

The initiative consisted of a series of events, talks, visits, workshops and social action projects. Our outstanding multi- faceted outward facing initiative has gained both national and international interest.

Jenny Sinclair worked with Alsop to produce a Common Good Schools Toolkit. It demonstrated how a school rooted in its community can be a force for the common good.

11. Highlights of FAITH 2017
JUSTICE Day – Year 9 participated in workshops. Students with local clergy led a Hillsborough Justice Day Service. Mrs Margaret Aspinall addressed students and released 96 red balloons.

Faith Encounters - workshops were led by members of the Jewish, Sikh, Buddhist and Christian communities. This was followed up by visits to a mosque, a synagogue and cathedrals.

#PILGRIM ED – worked with a cluster of small rural primary schools to facilitate a pilgrimage of teddies around Liverpool. They appear on a blog on the FAITH 2017 website and on

Archbishop of York Young Leaders Award – students are studying this unique active citizenship programme which empowers young people to make a difference in their local community whilst growing in key leadership skills.

15. Highlights of FAITH 2017
Liverpool Premiere of Holocaust Film “84303” – this is short film about the life of a Holocaust survivor. After the film, Mr Zigi Shipper BEM, delivered his Auschwitz Survivor testimony.

Yom Hashoah – Year 13 students visited Auschwitz. They led Holocaust Memorial Day at Alsop and participated in HMD at Liverpool Town Hall. These students also spoke Yom Hashoah at King David School.

The Great Get Together – a community lunch was held to celebrated the life of the late Jo Cox, MP. Students stood alongside the Liverpool Lord Mayor to demonstrate that we do have “more in common.”

“More in Common” Alsop produced a series of posters as a positive response to the Manchester terrorist attacks. These posters celebrate diversity, promote contemporary people and provide inspirational quotes.

Visit of Italian Teachers Thirteen Italian teachers visited Alsop to learn more about FAITH 2017 and the Common Good Schools toolkit.

FAITH 2017 demonstrates that Alsop truly is a beating heart of our community. After a recent visit to Alsop Chief Constable Andy Cooke commented that Alsop is an “Exceptional school with exceptional staff.”
