2 Psychology The study of behavior and mental processes.
Behavior is any action that can be observed and measured. All activities are behaviors.

4 Cognitive activities Are mental processes. These activities include: dreams, perceptions, thoughts, and memories. Psychological constructs are used to talk about something we cannot see, touch, or measure directly. Intelligence, dreams, perceptions

5 Goals of Psychology Observe Describe Explain Predict Control
Behavior and mental processes.

6 Theory A statement that attempts to explain why things are the way they are and happen the way they do. Examples: Evolution, Big Bang,

7 Principle A rule or a law.
Example: If you study more, your grades will be better. If you exercise, you will be in better shape.

8 Who does what? Psychologist: studies patients, tests disorders, talks and counsels Psychiatrist : works inside a branch of medicine dealing with psychological disorders Provides medical (drug) treatment

11 Developmental Study the changes that occur throughout a person’s life span.
