T-SIFTT Used to analyze stories
Title: Examine the title for clues to the work’s plot, setting, characters, theme, tone etc. Speaker: Examine the text for the speaker(s)/. Pay particular attention to the difference between the speaker(s) and the author. What do we know about the speaker(s) by what they say and do? Images: Identify images and sensory details. What purpose do they serve? DO they help create the setting, set the tone, create the characters, develop the theme…? Figures of Speech: Analyze figurative language and other devices (Look for simile, metaphor, personification etc.) What purpose is each? Tone: What words help create the author’s tone? Discuss what you think the author’s attitude is by looking at this list of words. Theme: Discuss what the topics are, and then write a statement of theme.
