2. Overview of Salem Witch Trials
First began on March 1st, 1692
Began by severe illnesses which had no explanation
Teenage girls began to blame women of casting spells on them
Adults began to believe these young girls
Many people were brought to trial from being accused of witchcraft
More people blamed others of being witches in fear of being accused themselves
Nearly 140 people were accused
Roughly 20 people hanged
About 50 people were endangered in some way (beating, tormenting, ect.)
On October 29th, 1992 the trials were ended by Governor Phips
May 1963 the rest of the accused were released

3. What led to the Salem Witch Trials:
Unsolved illnesses
Teenage girls telling lies
People accusing one another
People being afraid of being accused
Adults DEMANDING an explanation
The thought of the devil taking over
