Project outline Hypothesis!!!!! Presidential race –
Generate a hypothesis for the presidential race. What do you believe will be the outcome and why? This is who you think will win…not who you want to win! Presidential race – Bias- Find information that supports a candidate (both) and information that is for his opponent Give me 2 pros and 2 cons for both Clinton and Trump Candidate background – biography and experience Views on education and the Affordable Care Act Political parties – History of Republican and Democrat parties Find at least 3 other parties that have had candidates within the last 25 years What is the party platform for both the Democrats and Republicans this election? Voting – Follow the election, track who wins each state, map the results in blue or red Florida - a proposed amendment … Which amendment did you create? Why do you want this to be put on a future state ballot? What are the pros? Cons? Who would benefit from your amendment? Create a flyer to pass out to generate support for your amendment. We will vote in class. Outcomes Track the results on your map. Analyze, compare-contrast how our school and state did compared to the national outcome. Reflection Is the outcome what you predicted? What was different? What was accurate? Why do you believe the results matched or differed from your hypothesis?

OVERVIEW OF QUESTIONS TO BE ANSWERED ABOUT THE PRESIDENTIAL RACE
Who is running? What party do they represent? What are the party platforms? Facts about each of the candidates from the 2 main political parties. What are their views on education? On the Affordable Care Act? Who do you believe will win? (NOT – who you want to win) SS.7.C.2.8 Identify America’s current political parties, and illustrate their ideas about government. SS.7.C.2.9 Evaluate candidates for political office by analyzing their qualifications, experience, issue-based platforms, debates, and political ads.

Researching the parties
Research the two main parties and one other major party in this years election. Create a Venn diagram that compares and contrasts the party platforms. Republican Democrat Other: Green, Reform, Libertarian, Constitutional (choose one)

FLORIDA – PROPOSED AMENDMENTS TO OUR CONSTITUTION
You will create one (1) proposed amendment. You will be required to create a flyer to “advertise” all of the benefits of your amendment. Florida – like every other state – has its own constitution. It is similar to the U.S. Constitution but the laws are specific to our state. As you know, the 10th amendment of the U.S. Constitution grants power to the state in matters that are not expressly listed or prohibited by the federal government. The 2016 Florida ballot contains 5 proposed amendments. However we will create our own this time. Things to do for yours. What is it about? Why do you think it is needed? Who would it benefit? What are the pros/cons? Has this issue been addressed before? Do you believe it will pass? Why/why not? Reflection We will vote in class on your amendment.

Political Cartoons What purpose do they serve. How effective are they
Political Cartoons What purpose do they serve? How effective are they? Find one that is about a current election (doesn’t have to be the presidential election) Using the cartoon analysis document you were given, analyze the cartoon.
9
QUESTIONS ABOUT THE VOTING PROCESS AND RESULTS
What are the voting restrictions/requirements in Florida? How does Florida compare to the rest of the United States? How does ERMS compare to the U.S. and Florida? ***HYPOTHESIS**** Generate 2 hypotheses. Who do you believe will win the presidential election? Why? How do you believe your proposed amendment to the Florida Constitution will do? Pass/fail? Why?
