5 Status of implementation
RTHs Eight RTHs are connected to at least one MTN centre at a speed higher than 7200 bits/s RTH Tehran is connected to RTHs Moscow and New Delhi at 50 and 75 bauds respectively Regional Training Seminar on GTS Techniques and Procedures Guangzhou, December

6 Status of implementation
NMCs Twelve NMCs have at least one connection to the GTS at a speed higher than 1200 bits/s Ten NMCs have at least one connection to the GTS at a speed lower than 1200 bits/s Four NMCs have no connection to the GTS Regional Training Seminar on GTS Techniques and Procedures Guangzhou, December

7 Regional Training Seminar on GTS Techniques and Procedures
Guangzhou, December

8 Regional Training Seminar on GTS Techniques and Procedures
Guangzhou, December

9 Coverage by satellite systems
Region II is nearly entirely covered by the UKSF/WWW Region II is partially covered by ICSC (Pac.), MDD, MTSAT, TV-Inform-meteo, Systems operated by China (component of the RMTN ), India and Thailand Regional Training Seminar on GTS Techniques and Procedures Guangzhou, December

10 Meteosat Data Distribution
MDD receiving systems are installed in Bahrein, Kuwait, Oman, Quatar, Turkmenistan, United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan and Yemen Regional Training Seminar on GTS Techniques and Procedures Guangzhou, December

11 Regional Training Seminar on GTS Techniques and Procedures
Reception of WAFS ISCS China, Japan, Hong Kong - China, Republic of Korea, Viet Nam SADIS Bahrein, Bangladesh, China, Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, , Kuwait, Macao, Maldives, Mongolia, Nepal, Oman, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Turkmenistan, Unites Arab Emirates, Viet Nam Regional Training Seminar on GTS Techniques and Procedures Guangzhou, December

12 Study of an improved RMTN
The Working Group on Planning/Implementation of the WWW in Region II listed deficiencies of the RMTN, agreed on a list of requirements on the RMTN and on study for an improved RMTN The eleventh session of RA II (Ulaanbaatar, October 1996) requested to pursue the study taking into account new services, like the Managed Data communication Network services and satellite systems (e.g. VSATs) Regional Training Seminar on GTS Techniques and Procedures Guangzhou, December

13 Major deficiencies of the RMTN
A few NMCs have no connection to the GTS Several NMCs are still depending on HF broadcasts to receive WWW data and products Lack of flexibility in the exchange of data between non-adjacent centres Inefficient back-up arrangements There is no centralised management of the RMTN Regional Training Seminar on GTS Techniques and Procedures Guangzhou, December

14 Major deficiencies of the RMTN
The non-implementation of binary-oriented procedures (X.25, TCP/IP) hampers the distribution of data, in particular the distribution of new type of data The delayed implementation of new techniques leads to maintain various techniques at the GTS centres connected to several centres Regional Training Seminar on GTS Techniques and Procedures Guangzhou, December

15 Major deficiencies of the RMTN
The implementation of the GTS could me more cost-effective Regional Training Seminar on GTS Techniques and Procedures Guangzhou, December

16 Requirements on an improved RMTN
Each NMC should have a connection to the GTS at more than 2400 bits/s using binary-oriented procedures WWW Data should be delivered to the NMCs within the required time limits, for example no more than one hour after their release by the originator Regional Training Seminar on GTS Techniques and Procedures Guangzhou, December

17 Requirements on an improved RMTN
The RMTN should also meet the requirements of other WMO Programmes than the WWW Programme. These requirements should not exceed ten per cent of the total traffic. Regional Training Seminar on GTS Techniques and Procedures Guangzhou, December

18 Requirements on an improved RMTN
The RTMN should: Provide transmission of both alphanumerical and binary data presented in a standard form Have the appropriate interfaces with the MTN Be flexible in respect of the increase of its efficiency and the the expansion of its functions Make use of the “open” standard protocols and techniques Regional Training Seminar on GTS Techniques and Procedures Guangzhou, December

19 Requirements on an improved RMTN
The RMTN should provide reliable services: Round-the clock operation Transmission without errors Back-up arrangements Recovery arrangements (retransmission mechanisms) Security (protection from unauthorised access, incorrect use, destruction) Regional Training Seminar on GTS Techniques and Procedures Guangzhou, December

20 Requirements on an improved RMTN
The management of the network should be improved: In terms of the use of the telecommunication resources available through the network, in particular for the exchange of data between non-adjacent centres As regards the exchange of information on the operational status of the centres and the circuits Regional Training Seminar on GTS Techniques and Procedures Guangzhou, December

21 Requirements on an improved RMTN
The RMTN should be implemented and operated in a cost-effective manner. Each centre should be able to select a set of functions depending on its financial and technical capacities The transition to an improved RMTN should not be detrimental for any NMC, but should be implemented within defined time limits Regional Training Seminar on GTS Techniques and Procedures Guangzhou, December
