Today’s Goal’s To view prayer as an essential component of worship where our communication with God demonstrates our understanding of God; To move from the casual practice of prayer as a ritualized activity of private process or public performance; and To gain a broader understanding of what it means to be righteous.

The Groundwork of Worship
Worship is the feeling or expression of reverence and adoration for GOD. Attitude and Action Acknowledgement and Access Ascription and Adoration Attending and Application

Worship is … Proskuneo: to bow down before, to prostrate oneself
Latria: submission to and acknowledged dependence Dulia: honor and reverence The MOST common form of worship is PRAYER

Worship and Prayer Worship consciously acknowledges the relationship and roles of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit Rightly understood, prayer is to the Father, through the Son, in the power of the Holy Spirit

Prayer and Worship In prayer you occupy yourself with God: who He is, what He has done, what He has promised … Prayer is a privilege and an obligation of the Christian where we communicate with God

Prayer is Righteous RIGHT-E-O-US: Right Even Outside of Us
We care commanded to pray! Justice, grace and mercy are all present when we pray. Our confessions, requests, intercessions, and thanksgiving are offered to a Holy God

Prayer Ascribes The focus is on the WHO
Ascribing to God all glory and honor Majesty Sovereignty Holiness Purity Power Dominion The focus is on the WHO

Prayer Acknowledges Acknowledging what God has done and our dependence on Him Creator Sustainer Provider Protector The focus is on the WHAT of the WHO

Prayer Ask’s Asking for our daily needs
This is a commanded process This is a faith process This is a relational process This is a repetitive process The focus is on the WILL of the WHO

Prayer Accepts Accepting all of the blessing provided with thanksgiving Thanksgiving vs Taking Graciously receiving Sacrificially honoring Recognition of the gift, the giver, and our unworthiness The focus is on the WHY of the WHO

Summary Worship is an end to itself, not a means to an end.
We do not worship to become holy we are made holy to worship. We worship in prayer Look Up - Adoration Offer Up – Dedication Gather Up - Appreciation Get Up - Demonstration
