3 From its independence in 1810 until the economic crisis of 2001, Argentina was perceived as a modern country with a powerful economic system, a strong middle class, a large European-immigrant population, and an almost nonexistent indigenous culture. This perception differs greatly from the way that other Latin American countries have been viewed, and underlines the difference between Argentina’s colonial and postcolonial process and those of its neighbors. Comprising three hundred works by sixty artists, this exhibition examines crucial periods and aesthetic movements in which photography had a critical role, producing—and, at times, dismantling—national constructions, utopian visions, and avant-garde artistic trends. This exhibition is a part of Pacific Standard Time: LA/LA

4 Gallery Report Write 1500 words (minimum) typed in 12 point type on plain white paper Your report should contain the following: Select one photograph from Photography in Argentina, : Contradiction and Continuity. Discuss the photograph – composition, meaning, technical process, cultural and historical context Provide biographical detail about the photographer. Compare this photograph to a work of art in another art form (music, poetry, film, dance, theater, so on). Tell me your reaction to it (why did you pick this one and how do you feel about it?) Include an image of the photograph. Cite sources with endnotes or footnotes using Chicago Manual of Style (see simple form in last slide). You may use online sources, but NOT Wikipedia. Use authoritative sources. For a paper this size, 4 to 6 footnotes should usually be adequate. Staple your proof of attendance to your paper. Make sure that you incorporate in your discussion each of the components mentioned on the next page in Guidelines for Writing Your Narrative. Due October 24, 2017 This report is worth a maximum of 100 points.
