What is a Spy? Definition

Definition of a spy An agent employed by a state to obtain secret information, especially of a military nature, concerning its potential or actual enemies. One employed by a company to obtain confidential information about its competitors. One who secretly keeps watch on another or others.

Sabotage equipment Will pretend to be on one side and really be on another Give misinformation to their enemies Dress normally to trick their enemies Worked by themselves Would not give out info if they were caught

Was evolved in the Cold War time period Established to do covert operations Worked with the military to form the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO) So they could operate the air craft like the Lockheed U-2 and later satellites Main group involved in the spying

Provided day and night, very high altitude, all weather surveillance Wasn’t detectable The aircraft is also used for electronic sensor research and development, satellite calibration, and satellite data validation. Was a main device the C.I.A. used to find info on the Soviets

Why Spies Were Used Mainly for the same reasons United States Spies were used. Nuclear technology info was the main info trying to be obtained More effort was put on the use of Soviet spies then the Americans

KGB Was the national security agency of the Soviet Union
It was very difficult for them to build up after the second red scare ( anticommunism period) and with McCarthyism They recruited mercenary agents and this was very successful with scientific and technical espionage
