John Teaches Jesus the Life-Giver John 19:31-42

All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. John 1:3-4

But one of the soldiers pierced his side with a spear, and at once there came out blood and water. John 19:34

He who saw it has borne witness—his testimony is true, and he knows that he is telling the truth—that you also may believe. John 19:35

This is the disciple who is bearing witness about these things, and who has written these things, and we know that his testimony is true. John 21:24

For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. 2 Corinthians 5:21

For in Christ all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross. And you, who once were alienated and hostile in mind, doing evil deeds, he has now reconciled in his body of flesh by his death, in order to present you holy and blameless and above reproach before him. Colossians 1:19-22

On the last day of the feast, the great day, Jesus stood up and cried out, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’ ” John 7:37-38

“There is a fountain filled with blood, drawn from Immanuel’s veins;
And sinners, plunged beneath that flood, lose all their guilty stains. The dying thief rejoiced to see that fountain in his day; And there have I, as vile as he washed all my sins away. E’er since by faith I saw the stream your flowing wounds supply; Redeeming love has been my theme, and shall be till I die.” William Cowper There is a Fountain Filled with Blood (1771)

“Rock of Ages, cleft for me,
Let me hide myself in thee; Let the water and the blood, From thy riven side which flowed, Be of sin the double cure, Cleanse me from its guilt and pow’r.” Augustus M. Toplady Rock of Ages (1776)

For these things took place that the Scripture might be fulfilled: “Not one of his bones will be broken.” And again another Scripture says, “They will look on him whom they have pierced.” John 19:36-37

He keeps all his bones; not one of them is broken. Psalm 34:20

“And I will pour out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and pleas for mercy, so that, when they look on me, on him whom they have pierced, they shall mourn for him, as one mourns for an only child, and weep bitterly over him, as one weeps over a firstborn. … “On that day there shall be a fountain opened for the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, to cleanse them from sin and uncleanness.” Zechariah 12:10; 13:1

“But whoever denies me before men, I also will deny before my Father who is in heaven.” Matthew 10:33
