1 Splints used to treat fixed flexion deformity (a) Neoprene finger sleeve provides gentle extension also addresses chronic oedema (b) Static progressive (also known as a ‘belly gutter’) splint. This simple finger gutter splint has a ‘belly’ underneath the PIP joint. It is usually put on half an hour before bed with a gentle tension on the central strap. This provides a progressive and controlled end-range stretch into extension overnight (c) A commercial dynamic (spring) finger-based PIP extension splint.
