Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP)
Starts in Grade 11 or Grade 12 with the Cooperative Education program. Students have an opportunity to become registered apprentices and work towards becoming certified journeypersons in a skilled trade while completing their secondary school diplomas.

Students start training in a skilled trade while completing the requirements for an Ontario Secondary School Diploma; School to work transition by direct entry into apprenticeship training; Employers have the opportunity to train the skilled workers they require; Addresses the problem of skilled tradespeople shortages in general, and specifically the lack of young people joining the trades.

Allows students to focus their learning for an OSSD on a specific economic sector

This is a screen shot of a Learning Strategies class. I was using this opportunity to demonstrate to students what a mind map was. As well, we were exploring the various ways to submit the mind map to the teacher – not always easy when students construct huge mind maps on white boards or bristol board. I could demonstrate several possible methods such as the digital photograph shown.
