Position at contact for serve Overlapping?—Serving Team
NET LEGAL! The CB on the serving team is closer to the right side line and to the net than the RF.
22
Position at contact for serve
Overlapping? NET LEGAL! ILLEGAL!
23
Contact of serve is at the sound
Overlapping? NET LEGAL! ILLEGAL! The LF, CF, & RF on the receiving team are standing in a group at the center of the court, close to the net. The LF & RF are holding hands and pull each other to switch sides, as the ball is being tossed into the air for serve.
24
Position at the contact for serve
ILLEGAL or LEGAL? NET LEGAL! The CB (who is being “hidden”) on the receiving team, is standing on the back line (not across) and the coach has pulled the RF back to stand in front of the CB. The RF is standing in front of the RB and closer to the right side line than the CF. Back Line
25
Position at the contact for serve
Overlapping? NET LEGAL! The receiving team is having trouble with the jump serve from the serving team. The coach pulls the LF back so that they have four players receiving the ball. The back row players are all equal distance from the net. The LF is slightly in front of the LB and is between the CB & RB, but closer to the left side line than the CF.
26
Contact for serve is at the sound
Overlapping? NET LEGAL! The LB (the setter) on the serving team is standing next to the CB. As the ball is tossed into the air for serve, the LB & the CB take off running towards the net to get behind the RF. At the moment of contact the CB has not crossed the RB.
27
ILLEGAL ALIGNMENT? NO CALL
NET NO CALL The RB on the receiving team is standing with one foot completely outside of the end line. After the play is over the line judge gets the R1’s attention, and informs the R1 that the RB was outside of the court at the moment of serve. After the play is over, the Line Judge informs the R1 that the RB on the receiving team was outside the court at the moment of serve.(as illustrated in the slide)
28
Serve Situation #1 The RF & the CF on the receiving team are overlapping at the moment of serve. The R2 blows the whistle and signals illegal alignment. At the moment of contact for serve, the line judge signals foot fault and informs the R1 that the server stepped on the line. The R1 did not see the foot fault, because the R1 was watching for illegal alignment by the setter. What should the call be? _____ Foot Fault by server _____ Illegal alignment by receiving team _____ Replay
29
Correct Answer to Serve Situation
__X__ Foot Fault by the server Because of the foot fault, the serve was not legal and illegal alignment cannot be called. Rule 6-4-Penalty 1-a For illegal alignment, loss of rally/point is awarded to the opponent for overlapping by players other than the server at the moment a legal serve occurs.
30
Alignment Situation At the moment of the serve, the R1 calls illegal alignment on player #5 who had just replaced the libero. The R1 believed that player #5 was still a back row player, but was in the LF position. The coach informed the R1 that player #5 had rotated to the front row. After taking a closer look, the R1 realizes that the coach is correct. What is the call? ____ Illegal Alignment ____ Replay ____ Ignore the coach
31
Correct Answer to Alignment Situation
The R1 should declare a replay
