8 Homework expectations
Generally assigned M-Th, ELA often online Softcover book coming home for times when Internet access is a problem. Projects/compositions/backlogged reading might require weekend work if your child gets behind Homework listed on website and written daily in PACK planner No night-to-night late work is accepted AR goals near the midpoint and end of each trimester – make sure your child ALWAYS has a book for daily independent reading Your child should have a book to read here at school at all times. Books from the school library, community library, and books from here/home are fine! Want to read a book that’s not AR? I can work with that.

9 Grades Homework: 10% of grade. Seems small, but can make a letter grade difference. Scored 0, 1, or 2 pts. Class work: 25% of grade. Also scored 0, 1, or 2 pts. Quizzes and projects: 30% of grade. Usually scored out of 10 pts. Tests: 35% of grade. Raw score, usually ranging from pts. AR goals count for 10 test points. Fail a test or quiz? Make an appointment to take it again. If at first you don’t succeed… Retake max score is 70% History tests can only be retaken after the study guide has been completed Parents and students can access grades online (more coming…) PLEASE read comments on assignments. You might have to scroll right if you access AERIES on a phone. Missed assignments marked in red on AERIES, averaged as 0. Progress reports every six weeks Students required to check and record grades/parents must sign to verify the grades on pages of the PACK planner

10 Weekly grade checks – Thursday nights:
Page 26. Students and parents record grades here, parents initial weekly. Please do not sign unless you’re verifying the grade written in the planner. Sign up on AERIES to get weekly grade notices on Thursdays.

15 Home expectations this year: Language Arts
Read here and at home until your point goals are met. Goals based on reading self-chosen AR books for minutes each school day. There are two AR goals throughout each trimester, with goals based on a placement test. Online assignments. Softcover book for times with no Internet access. Students will be challenged and asked questions that push them to refer back to what they’ve read. Annotating – recording thoughts during the reading process

16 Home expectations: History/Social studies
Cloze (fill-in-the-blank/complete the sentence) notes for each chapter section. Graded as homework. Classwork (CW) notes: Students take notes on the people, places, and content vocabulary. Placed here because they often get started in class and finished at home. Graded as classwork. Always typed; submitted online. These can be done early (for the entire year if you so desire!). Study guides: Given out at the beginning of each chapter and announced on Bloomz. Extra credit test points are assigned for completion, but these are required work.

17 Thank you for coming! Let’s make 7th grade a positive, successful, and memorable year! Your mission: Please complete and return: For the office: PACK planner acknowledgment (coming home soon but not tonight, p. 1 of your child’s planner) For the teachers: We’d like these by Wednesday, please! Pink sheet: “Help Us Get to Know Our Students” questionnaire by this coming Wednesday.
