Young People in European Forests!
„Forestfireprotection in Poland and Europe.”
2
Hot topic! Fires are common in everyday life. Sometimes they start in city centers, but some of them start in the wild. If a wildfire starts in the forest, It will cause harmful damage. Fortunately every European government is trying to protect forests from being burned to the ground. It’s worth to know that wildfires are the most harmful events which happen in the forests.
3
How can this even happen?!
Four major natural causes of wildfire ignitions exist: - lightning - sparks from rockfalls - spontaneous combustion - volcanic eruption Major human related causes are: arson using cars, motorbikes and other vechiles in the woods warfare
4
How does the fire spread?
The spread of wildfires varies based on the flammable material present it might be: Ground fires are fed by subterranean roots, this fuel type is especially susceptible to ignition due to spotting. Ground fires typically burn by smoldering, and can burn slowly for days to months. This type of spreading isn’t common in Europe. Crawling or surface fires are fueled by low-lying vegetation such as leaf and timber litter, debris, grass. Ladder fires consume material between low-level vegetation and tree canopies, such as small trees, downed logs, and vines. Crown, canopy, or aerial fires burn suspended material at the canopy level, such as tall trees, vines, and mosses. The ignition of a crown fire, termed crowning, is dependent on the density of the suspended material, canopy height, canopy continuity, sufficient surface and ladder fires, vegetation moisture content, and weather conditions during the blaze.

Law and justice! We must say that the situation of forestfireprotection has got a lot better since The number of wildfires dropped from about 1000 to only 200. Polish State Forests have modern and well working warning system which consist of thermal imaging cameras, fire towers and fire trucks.

Shame on us… The largest wildfire in the Europe took place in Polish forest near Kuźnia Racibroska in It started on 26th August 1992 about an hour after midday. The circumstances were very advantageous. Temperatures in different regions of Poland were above 30°C and it was very dry outside. The fire was caused by a single spark. Firefighters fought with the fire for almost two weeks! That was an eco-catastrophe! Three people died: Andrzej Kaczyna, Andrzej Malinowski and the third person was a man who died in a road accident during the action.
