Communication could become a battlefield James 3:2 We all stumble in many ways. If anyone is never at fault in what he says, he is a perfect man, able to keep his whole body in check. D – directional I – infernal L – lethal A – abnormal

DIRECTIONAL James 3:3-4 [3] When we put bits into the mouths of horses to make them obey us, we can turn the whole animal. [4] Or take ships as an example. Although they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are steered by a very small rudder wherever the pilot wants to go.

INFERNAL James 3:5-6 Likewise the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark. [6] The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole person, sets the whole course of his life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell.

LETHAL James 3:7-8 [7] All kinds of animals, birds, reptiles and creatures of the sea are being tamed and have been tamed by man, [8] but no man can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.

ABNORMAL James 3:9-10 With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in God's likeness. [10]Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers, this should not be. This is why we need to learn how to LOVE WITH WORDS

1. Love people with honest words. Ephes. 4:25 Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to his neighbor, for we are all members of one body.

1. Love people with honest words. How do honest words work? Proverbs 27:5 Better is open rebuke than hidden love. You need to tell the truth because you love them and because you care about them, not because you want to hurt them.

Jesus spoke with honesty. His honesty changed lives. 13:6 “Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.” *Samaritan woman* 1. Love people with honest words.

2. Love people with careful words. a. Anger. Ephesians 4:26 “In your anger do not sin. Do not let the sun go down while you’re still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold.”

The issue when we’re angry We use all the artillery we have. We exceed the level of the offense. We think that somebody has to win and somebody has to lose. The truth, we both lose. Or the whole family loses.

How do you deal with anger? V.26 “Don’t let the sun go down while you’re still angry.” “To keep your relationship in good shape: Whenever you are wrong, admit it; whenever you’re right, shut up.”

2. Love people with careful words. B. gossip Romans 1:29-30 They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, [30] slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents;

2. Love people with careful words. B. gossip How do we deal with gossip? Don’t share anything with someone who is not part of the problem or part of the solution

People have different styles of communication. Loving with your words means, you learn how to communicate with your loved ones When did you last argue with your spouse? What was the argument about? Did you get angry? Did your anger start a war?

3. Love people with building words. Ephesians 4:29 says “Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs.”

Words can build or tear down Words can build a marriage relationship or tear down a marriage relationship. Words can build a child’s self esteem or tear down a child’s self esteem. Words can build a relationship with a co-worker or tear the relationship down with a co-worker. Are my words building people up? Are they building other people up according to their needs?

The biggest thing that we have to do in this area is to think before we speak

T – is it Truthful? H – is it Helpful? I – is it Inspirational? N – is it Necessary? K – is it Kind? So THINK before you speak

Home work I will ask Jesus to strengthen me this week by using; Kind words. Proverbs 12:25 “Worry can rob you of happiness, but kind words will cheer you up.”

Home work I will ask Jesus to strengthen me this week by using; Honest words Bible says “An honest answer is like a kiss on the lips.” Flattering words vs. honest words

Home work I will ask Jesus to strengthen me this week by using, Wise words Proverbs 12:18 “Thoughtless words can wound as deeply as any sword, but wisely spoken words can heal.” Wise words can heal a break the heart.

Proverbs 27:6 Faithful are the wounds of a friend, But deceitful are the kisses of an enemy. Ang tunay na kaibigan – sasabihin ang tutoo Ang tunay na kaaway – bobolahin kang tutoo

It’s the idea of the investment of our words Our finances will only last as long as we’re on this earth. But our words? Jesus said that at the last judgment we will be called to account for every careless word that we’ve been speaking. Matthew 12:34b For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks. ( heart issue) Matthew 12:36 [36] But I tell you that men will have to give account on the day of judgment for every careless word they have spoken.

THE SOLUTION? TRUST IN JESUS!
“We are made right in God’s sight when we trust in Jesus Christ to take away our sins. And we all can be saved in this same way, no matter who we are or what we have done.” Romans 3:22 (NLT)
