2 Early Life Eamonn de Valera was born on the 14th of October 1882 in New York City. Eamonn was taken to Ireland by his uncle Ned at the age of two. He played for the Munster Rugby team in 1905 in the fullback position. He went to a local school called Bruree National School and he went to Blackrock College and Rockwell College.

3 Easter Rising On the 24th of April 1916 the Easter Rising began. His job was to cover the south eastern approaches to the city. After a week of fighting the order came from Patrick Pearse to surrender. De Valera was going to be executed but since he was born in America they didn’t execute him in case the American came and fought against them.

4 Civil War In June 1922 the Civil War began because of the Anti-Treaty. Eamonn de Valera was against the Anti-Treaty. Both sides wanted to avoid a civil war but fighting broke out because they both wanted the Four Courts in Dublin. In March 1923 de Valera attended the meeting of the IRA members to decide on the future of the war. He was known to be in favour of a truce but he had no voting rights and it was narrowly decided to continue.

5 Death Eamon de Valera died in Blackrock, County Dublin on the 29th of August at the age of 92. His body lay in state at Dublin Castle and was given a full funeral on the 3rd of September at St Mary's Pro-Cathedral, which was broadcast on national television. He is buried in Dublin's Glasnevin Cemetery with his wife and children.
