Understanding narrative
The Classical Narrative Style is the dominant style in cinema. It follows a set of rules on how films are supposed to be put together. These rules are unspoken; they are just basic common knowledge to the film creators and expected by the film viewers.

Understanding narrative
The Classical Hollywood Narrative Style usually consists of many basic elements. These elements usually include the introduction of the problem early in the movie. Then as the movie progresses the characters logically work through the problem, creating a story. In the end the problem is solved.

Classic Hollywood narrative
At the start of a film we are shown a state of equilibrium. The main characters, the protagonists, goes about her or his normal day to business of living. Then the main characters experience some form of disequilibrium and this sets off the chain of events that make the narrative of the film.

Cause and effect Narrative is all about cause and effect
The chain of events and the decisions made by the character drive the plot and feed the character development. Films are a series of cause and effects that result from the primary narrative trigger or cause that begins the narrative

A focus on individual success against all odds is a feature of classical narrative cinema
