Science Technology Engineering & Math (STEM) Nova Awards Shoot focuses on science Start Your Engines focuses on technology Woosh focuses on engineering Crunch focuses on Mathematics Supernova Awards Earned by completing a combination of STEM related merit badges and STEM/Nova awards

Eight Patrols, led by the Scouts themselves Except for the first year Patrol, the leaders are elected from among the Patrol’s members Two Patrols for 1st year Scouts led by older boys called Troop Guides Five Patrols for Scouts in 7th through 10th Grade Shark Cobra Pine Tree Lightning Python Cougar The Eagle Patrol has 11th & 12 Grade Boys Eagle Raven

We're a Boy Led Troop The boys take care of almost every aspect of our program. For example: Leading the patrols Taking care of equipment Teaching younger scouts Writing articles for our newsletter If the boys didn't do their jobs, a Troop our size couldn't function

After his first year, each of our Scouts takes on a position of leadership Leadership is a requirement for the higher ranks As he gets older, he takes on more responsibility There are job descriptions for every job listing the objective, requirements, qualifications, and the level of commitment expected from the Scout in that job You can see their jobs on our organization chart

PLs for Ecology for Patrols Patrol Leaders PLs Guides Den Chiefs for Comms Lead Instructors Historian Chaplain Bugler for Activities OA Rep Difficulty 4 – Filled by dedicated experienced Scout, qualifies for Eagle Difficulty 3 – Slightly less demanding, qualifies for Eagle Difficulty 2 – Scoutmaster assigned, does NOT qualify for Eagle Difficulty 1 – Scoutmaster assigned, does NOT qualify for Life or Eagle

Troop 542 emphasizes these principles Oath and Law not only recited, but discussed As part of leadership training As part of the advancement review process During interfaith services on campouts Service projects Annual food drive (about 5,000 items donated in 2016) Eagle Scout projects (8 projects totaling 1,916 hours of service to the community in 2016) Ecology program Quarterly highway cleanups on Fort Washington Avenue Biannual ecology projects Religious Awards (6 presented in 2016)

Our Program Weekly meetings Mondays during school year at 7:30 PM have four segments: Patrol Corners – Patrols conduct Patrol business led by their Patrol Leader
