3 Limestone A sedimentary rock formed from the remains of tiny sea animals.

Rivers, hills and ridges, coastal features, lakes, and wetlands Pg. 143

5 Ridge A long, raised strip of land that runs parallel to the coast. Lake Wales Ridge which is 91m in height in the central highlands.

6 Rivers Florida’s streams and rivers carry and drop sediment along the coast. Two rivers…Apalachicola River empties into the Gulf of Mexico. The St John’s River is on the east coast of Florida and is the longest river. 310miles.

7 Lakes… There are more than 7,000 lakes. The largest is Lake Okeechobee is at it’s deepest 6m. Formed due to the limestone and karst topography.

8 Wetlands… The Everglades is a large wetland…formed on a limestone base…which is fed from Lake Okeechobee. This area has unique type of mangrove trees.

9 Coastal Features… Barrier islands and built up sand bars form most of our coastal features. Florida Keys and the reefs are made of calcite.

10 Landform Regions… There are 3 main regions…Northern Highlands, Central Highlands and the Coastal Lowlands
