2. USING PROPERTIES TO SOLVE TWO-STEP EQUATIONS
Solving two-step equations requires us to use the reverse of the order of operations:
First, you must undo all addition and subtraction.
Then, undo all multiplication and division.

3n – 6 = 15 3n – 6 = 15  3n = 21  3n = n = 7 Check: 3(7) – 6 = – 6 = 15  15 = 15

15x + 3 = 48
t = -6 4

5. SOLVING PROBLEMS WITH TWO-STEP EQUATIONS
Lynne saves $45 each week. She now has $180. She plans to save for a trip to the Bahamas. Find how many weeks (w) she will take to save $900.
Take what she has + what she saves per week and make that equal to what she needs to save.
w =  45w =  w = 16
Check: (16) = 900  = 900
900 = 900

6. Example…
Jacob bought four begonias in 6-in. pots and a $19 fern at a garden center. He spent a total of $83. Solve the equation 4p + 19 = 83 to find the price (p) of each begonia.
