1 Bell Ringer Riddle: What three consecutive, positive numbers will add and multiply to give the same answer.

2 Two Step Equations (No, not THAT two step…)
Mr. Haupt CC A.2; CC A.3

3 Solutions The solution to an equation is the value (or values) that when plugged into the variable, will make the equation true. Where before today you were asked to simplify, evaluate, etc. you will now be asked to “solve.”

4 Equivalent Equations Any time you have multiple equations that have the same solution (or solutions) we say that those equations are equivalent equations. If 3x = 12 and 4x = 16, then x is equal to 4 in both equations So the equations are equivalent.

5 Inverse Operations Inverse Operations are operations that undo, or cancel out, one another. If I am multiplying, then to undo that multiplication, I need to do the inverse, which is division. Same with adding and subtracting. What is the opposite of squaring a number?

6 On To Solving Equations
The goal is to get your variable all by itself on one side of the equal sign, with everything else on the other side. SADMEP – It is easiest to do PEMDAS in reverse to get your variable by itself. Get rid of addition and subtraction before you get rid of multiplication and division. Then parentheses, and lastly exponents.
