4. WHAT IS CREDIT FOR PRIOR LEARNING?
Awarding of credit for college level learning obtained through non-traditional ways:
examples: military training, work experience, industry credentials, professional development, volunteer work, etc.
WHY CPL IS IMPORTANT: Attract adult learners to your institution – recruitment and retention
BENEFITS TO STUDENTS AND COLLEGES: empowers students to persist and complete their degree - Degree Completion by PLA Credit-earning for All Students
Concerns – giving out credit for EXPERIENCE. CPL assessment should demonstrate college level learning.
CAEL – 48-institution study of PLA – over 7 years. Over 62,000 students
