4 WHAT IS CREDIT FOR PRIOR LEARNING?
Awarding of credit for college level learning obtained through non-traditional ways: examples: military training, work experience, industry credentials, professional development, volunteer work, etc. WHY CPL IS IMPORTANT: Attract adult learners to your institution – recruitment and retention BENEFITS TO STUDENTS AND COLLEGES: empowers students to persist and complete their degree - Degree Completion by PLA Credit-earning for All Students Concerns – giving out credit for EXPERIENCE. CPL assessment should demonstrate college level learning. CAEL – 48-institution study of PLA – over 7 years. Over 62,000 students

MSSC-CPT (Manufacturing Skill Standards Council – Certified Production Certification) Core courses designed to encompass MSSC-CPT competencies CMAE 1514: Safety Awareness CMAE 1518: Manufacturing Process and Production CMAE 1522: Quality Practices CMAE 1526: Maintenance Awareness Military Crosswalks Additional curriculum alignment with industry credentials MSSC industry lead org focusing on assessment, certification of federally endorsed standards. End of June, 2016 – 66 credits awarded consortium wide To date: 50 credits awarded at South Central College End of year 2 - Overall Goals: reached 40% of completer goal reached 43% of wage increase goal

7 SCC - Credit for Prior Learning
Minimal policy – focused mostly on Test-Outs (Challenge Exams) Military Accelerated Process (May of 2015) Small group presented a CPL Action Plan to administration (May 2015) Core group of faculty, deans, staff developed policy/procedure draft (December 2015 – July 2016) Policy approved Procedure – vote this Friday! AQIP CPL Project (January 2016 – December 2016) Gathering info. and models to work from Campus awareness Forms/faculty assessment tools/website development AQIP – Academic Quality Improvement Program – Accreditation Pathway
