Session Objectives Identify barriers to participation in local governance structures for CTE faculty Investigate local strategies to mitigate barriers to participation and engage this important stakeholder Highlight strategies ASCCC has implemented to develop CTE faculty leaders and to ensure the voice of CTE faculty is heard Share the collective wisdom in the room and generate strategies all may consider

ASCCC CTE Faculty Engagement Efforts
CTE Liaisons to local academic senates: At the Spring 2015, delegates passed Resolution urging “local academic senates to identify a CTE faculty member to act as a liaison to facilitate communication among local CTE faculty, the local academic senate, and the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges.” At the time of this event, there are 62 colleges with active CTE liaisons.

ASCCC CTE Faculty Engagement Efforts
ASCCC CTE Leadership Institute provides faculty with opportunities to engage in key policy conversations through their interaction with representatives of the Strong Workforce task force, by learning about the implications of policy decisions on local programs and courses, and in participating in breakout sessions to better understand the college processes including topics on leadership, curriculum design, course repetition, and effective program advocacy.
