What is different about Senior School?
Every student is aiming for a Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE) OP and VET students are all aiming for the result that will set them on the path they have chosen

Where can seniors NOT go?
Junior Secondary EXCEPT: directly to and from staffroom to see teacher to line up for class in Junior Secondary

“Our education, our future………” Engage in your learning Attend school 100% Complete all work Work at home - successful students will study for 2 – 3 hours each night Study Sessions – twice weekly in the CRC from 2.40 – 4.45pm Mon & Thursday Balance school and study commitments with other commitments

What is changing with senior?
“Our education, our future………” OP System is being replaced by a new system of senior assessment and tertiary entrance This group of students is the last group to use the current system

How will being the last group
affect my child? Many students are taking an alternative pathway to the OP system to get to university or TAFE Strong competition for the smaller group remaining in OP This group will be the last who sit the QCS test Rigorous training needed Dedicated subject

“Our education, our future………” Each subject has a display with information about subjects & career paths Displays from TAFE and the universities help students to plan their future direction HODs and teachers on hand for advice

How do students prepare?
“Our education, our future………” Ensure they do their very best work in semester one All subject selections are based on semester 1 marks- Subject Authority English Maths B Ancient History Minimum standard to be eligible B in 10 English B in 10 Maths Extension B for 10 History or Geography

“Our education, our future………” WHO: Parent and their child + teacher WHAT: An mandatory interview to negotiate subject choices for year 11 and 12 to ensure the best pathway is chosen WHEN: add dates If students have not met pre-requisites, they may register interest for subject and be reconsidered at end of year depending on Semester 2 results

“Our education, our future………” Reading is the key to success in senior Read as widely as possible, as often as possible Build complexity of reading You can pick up a reading schedule to help take a student through Year 11 and 12 The librarian is there to help
