Modems It has Modems and how they work!  MODEM is an acronym for MODulator/DEModulator.  Developed for transmitting and receiving data over the standard telephone lines.  Data rates up to 56.6K baud.  Automatic speed detection, Data compression, etc.

Modems It has What is an Intelligent Modem? It has…  an on-board powerful micro-computer.  a dedicated resident programme and operating system.  a special extended command set.  a number of PLC Drivers.  and... and...

Modems It has What is an Intelligent Modem? It…  does not require a PC or Laptop connected.  does not require complex and lengthy PLC programming.  automatically monitors and converts data before transferring to the PLC.  can be programmed to perform complex tasks.

Modems  1. What is an intelligent Modem?  2. Where can they be applied?  3. Are they easy to install?  4. What are the unique features?  5. How are they configured?  6. What versions are available now?  7. What’s next? Intelligent Modems

Modems It has Where can they be applied?  Applications range from On-Line maintenance to automatic failure reporting.  Any Remote Telemetry application, requiring control and monitoring of data between out- stations.

Modems On-line maintenance Applications  On-line maintenance only requires a PC, DESK- MODEM and A2S/DIN modem connected to the remote PLC.  When on line the PLC or HMI can be monitored or reprogrammed using the normal software.  The ASVD allows full voice communication at the same time.

Modems  1. What is an intelligent Modem?  2. Where can they be applied?  3. Are they easy to install?  4. What are the unique features?  5. How are they configured?  6. What versions are available now?  7. What’s next? Intelligent Modems

Modems It has Are they easy to install? Yes…  they can connect to a variety of Mitsubishi PLC’s and HMI’s.  Connecting and programming cables are available.  Low voltage 12 to 24VDC power requirement.

Modems  1. What is an intelligent Modem?  2. Where can they be applied?  3. Are they easy to install?  4. What are the unique features?  5. How are they configured?  6. What versions are available now?  7. What’s next? Intelligent Modems

Modems It has What are the unique features?  a) Two levels of password protection.  b) On-Line Configuration (OLC).  c) Dial On Demand (DOD).  d) Stores Telephone Numbers and Messages.  e) Wide Area Telemetry (WAT).  f) Automatic Simultaneous Voice & Data (ASVD).  g) Plug and Play.

Modems It has A) Password Protection USER LEVEL  to protect unauthorised dial-in. ADMINISTRATOR LEVEL  for On-Line configuration.

Modems It has B) On-Line Configuration  Allows the Administrator to make changes to the Modem special command set over the telephone line.

Modems It has C) Dial On Demand (DOD) On request from the PLC...  one or more telephone numbers are auto dialled.  messages or data is sent after connection.  after data transfer the Modem can stay on- line or hang-up.

Modems Dial On Demand Application  The PLC sets up Telephone numbers and fixed Message addresses or selected data, then requests an DOD.  Connection is made and the selected message(s) are transmitted to a PC before disconnecting or staying on- line.

Modems It has D) Wide Area Telemetry (WAT)  Full data communication between PLC’s.  Automatic reading and writing from or to user designated PLC memory.  Remote Input and Output forcing.  On-Line monitoring feature.

Modems Wide Area Telemetry Application  The local PLC sets a strategy to switch on an output, then continuously monitor data registers in the remote FX PLC.  The PLC requests DOD and when connection is established data transmission takes place until an Operator commands the PLC to hang-up.
