Standard Work Instruction: Post Trip Inspection Original Date: January 26, 2017 Version number: v1.0 Revision Date: Post Trip Inspection (Delivery) This document will detail the steps necessary to complete a post trip vehicle inspection Pre/Post Trip inspections are required to be completed daily. As a driver of a commercial motor vehicle, it is your responsibility to ensure your vehicle is in safe operating condition after arrival. Any deficiencies identified during the inspection process must be documented on the Driver Vehicle Inspection Report (DVIR) and brought to the attention of management. POST-TRIP INSPECTION Note: DOT Regulation “Every Motor Carrier shall require its drivers to report, and every driver shall prepare a report in writing at the completion of each day’s work on each vehicle operated…” After you have completed your route and driver check-in, park vehicle in designated space Locate your DVIR booklet Complete the information section at the top of the report a. Company Name b. Odometer Reading c. Unit Number d. Date e. Location f. Other… Review the items outlined on the report and document any deficiencies discovered a. Add additional remarks, where necessary, to provide sufficient detail of any deficiency found during your inspection or roadside DOT inspection If deficiencies are documented… a. Bring them to the immediate attention of DC management b. Be sure to Sign and Date your DVIR If no deficiencies are found… a. Proceed to Sign and Date the DVIR Note: A copy of the DVIR is required to be submitted at the completion of each day for EVERY vehicle you operated during that day. Return the DVIR booklet to the cab and secure your vehicle. Reminder: Any defects found during your Post-Trip Inspection must be properly documented on the DVIR and brought to the immediate attention of dc management.
