Urban Models Have No Relevance In Modern Day Geographical Study
Lindsay Scott
2
I am using the Burgess and Hoyt urban models in my geographical study to compare them against the two towns in my study. Urban Models
3
The Burgess model is based on the idea that land value is greatest in the centre of the town or city due to high competition in the central section. This leads to high-rise, high-density buildings in the CBD and low-density, sparse buildings on the urban fringe. The Hoyt model is much like the Burgess model except there are zones or sectors of a land use that follow a line through the city or town. This can be for example, the land use of industry following a transport link. Urban Models

Urban models allow us to compare towns and cities against them in order to find out what model they represent. Although the models used are quite old, they are still useful as towns and cities were built many years ago and will most likely have the same model now as they did all those years ago.
