Advantage session # 76 Tapping the Hidden Job Market
Presenter: Bob Goldstein Career Counselor, Kelley School of Business, IUB.
2
There are only two ways to find a job.
The employer looks for you. OR You look for the employer.
3
80% ….of all positons are filled without employer advertising!
4
Why bother about HJM? These positions are filled by—or created for—candidates who come to an employer’s attention through , recommendations, referrals, recruiters, or direct contact with the candidate.
5
The HJM ….is as close as your telephone your word processor and account--- as well as your eyes and ears. Your contacts and those you meet through your contacts can help you learn about positions, projects or needs that will not be formally announced.
6
Employers are…… ….constantly on the lookout for suitable candidates to replace departing, retiring or inefficient workers, to work on new projects, or to add expertise in a particular area.
7
Cold calls…. are calls you make without a referral or connection. Cold calls may result in an interview----but you will have to be prepared for lots of rejections along the way.
8
NETWORKING LEADS TO JOBS!
Using referrals as an introduction is less stressful and more productive. NETWORKING LEADS TO JOBS!
