The replication of DNA is semi-conservative, or "half saved
The replication of DNA is semi-conservative, or "half saved." Each of the two strands of the original DNA molecule serves as a single-strand template for the synthesis of a new complementary strand. Thus, in the next generation, half of the DNA double helix is directly from the original and half is new. (Reprinted with permission from Brooker RJ: Genetics: Analysis & Principles, 3rd ed.
