1
Benefits and problems of living in a multi-faith society.
2
Problems. Prejudiced employers may not give jobs to ethnic minorities.
Prejudice landlords may refuse accommodation for ethnic minorities. Prejudice teachers may discriminate against ethnic minority students. Prejudiced police officers may discriminate against ethnic minorities.
3
The effects of these problems.
Certain groups feel unfairly treated. Some people believe that young people from ethnic minorities may turn to crime if they do not get the same opportunities as the majority. Some politicians believe that young Muslims may support extremist Islamic groups as they feel they have no chance of success in a prejudiced society. Racism can lead to groups like the BNP that can stir up hatred and violence.
4
If a multi-ethnic society is to function well, it must treat all its members fairly and give equal opportunities to all its members.
5
Benefits People of different ethnic backgrounds will get to know each other. Progress will be made because of lots of new ideas coming together. Life is more interesting…..food, fashion, music, entertainment. A multi-ethnic society helps people to live and work in a world of multi-national companies and economic interdependence between all nations!!!
6
Arguments against multi-ethnic societies.
Different ethnic groups are likely to disagree if they live together. Each country should be occupied by one ethnic group. (This hardly ever happens anywhere!!) Can lead to a loss of culture. There would be no conflict if every ethnic group had its own country.
