First step: County-wide food recovery program Pick up excess food from any organization and immediately deliver it to nonprofits serving Marin’s most vulnerable people.

Behavior Change Strategy: Sell benefits; “socialize” the program Liability Concerns Strategy: Explain numerous food-safety measures; Good Samaritan Law Limited staff time for recruiting Strategy: Partner with cities and organizations calling on same businesses Example: Marin Sanitary Service’s Food-to- Energy program

In 2.5 years, our staff and 160 volunteers have delivered 650,000 pounds of food from 145+ food donors to 72 sites across Marin County We reach 5,000+ people every month with our deliveries Example: Shari Food waste and hunger: Solvable problems in Marin County
