Mark 10:17-23 “Now as He was going out on the road, one came running, knelt before Him, and asked Him, ‘Good Teacher, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?’ So Jesus said to him, ‘Why do you call Me good? No one is good but One, that is, God. You know the commandments: Do not commit adultery, Do not murder, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Do not defraud, Honor your father and your mother.’ And he answered and said to Him, ‘Teacher, all these things I have kept from my youth…’”

Mark 10:17-23 “…Then Jesus, looking at him, loved him, and said to him, ‘One thing you lack: Go your way, sell whatever you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, take up the cross, and follow Me.’ But he was sad at this word, and went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions. Then Jesus looked around and said to His disciples, ‘How hard it is for those who have riches to enter the kingdom of God!’ (NKJV).

The Quest for Eternal Life
Christ Alone Offers What We Seek 1. Obey God—“…if you want to enter into life, keep the commandments” (Matt. 19:17b). Any way that denies obedience to God is false. Eternal life is not found here (1 Cor. 15:19-23). It comes in “the age to come” (Mark 10:23-31). Physical death is an appointment we must keep in this life (Heb. 9:27-28).

The Quest for Eternal Life
Christ Alone Offers What We Seek 2. Deny Self— “sell whatever you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven” (Mark 10:21b). Is this salvation by sacrifice? (cf. Acts 5:3-4; 1 Tim. 6:17-19). Jesus is teaching priorities (Mark 10:21c). 3. Follow Christ (Matt. 16:24-27).

The Quest for Eternal Life
Eternal Life Is Not Found… In some secret plant, elixir, fountain, bacteria, or medical discovery. It comes through Jesus (Rom. 6:23)… To those who put their faith in Him (John 3:36)… Who have died to sin (Rom. 6:22; 6:1-7)… Who sow to the Spirit (Gal. 6:7-9)… Who seek it patiently (Rom. 2:5-7). Are You Seeking Eternal Life?
