Challenges of San Francisco
Topographical Wood construction Overhead electrical wires Zero lot lines Narrow streets Delivery trucks/ double parking Muni wires, buses & traffic Wind speed Rapid fire spread Earthquakes

Operational Challenges
Ladder placement Hose leads Collapse zone Hydrants Aerial operations How many wood ladders and why (insulation, weight and size) Hills and History Hose leads: hydrant to fire and into the building and out of the way of the ladders. Hoses all over the front of the building/ no place to put a ladder Collapse zone: Command post and VEHICLES out Hydrants: location, distance and visual Aerial operations, MUNI wires and live wires, outriggers, reinforced ground Fire ground operations: Rigs need to pass each other We adapt and overcome – however, it is not recommended to continue to create than optimal conditions
