4 passages consist of 4 passages Humanities, Social Science, Natural Science and Prose (fiction)

PROSE FICTION Can be tough because it can sometimes feel like you’re opening a book on page 200 Trust that it will make sense-keep reading! Prose fiction passages aren’t in standard paragraph form because they contain LOTS OF DIALOGUE
5
What to do when reading prose?
Stay focused on the MAIN IDEAS of paragraphs Focus on PEOPLE and what they SAY and THINK
6
Dialogue Pay attention to: Who said what?
Do the lines reveal true feelings OR is the character hiding his/her true feelings? What is the speaker’s TONE? (optimistic, sarcastic, guarded, etc.)
7
Before going to the questions
Remind yourself of the main idea of the passage AND Who are the main characters? How does the author describe them? Does any dialogue indicate how the characters feel about themselves? How would you describe the characters at the BEGINNING of the passage? How would you describe the characters at the END of the passage?

YOUR STRATEGY-The passage
Read the introductory blurb and the passage using your 2 track mind. Ask yourself questions that help you focus on the author’s argument. (Do this for each paragraph). Reflect before answering the questions.

Strategy-The Questions
Read the question, but DO NOT look at the answer choices. ANSWER the questions on your own (use line references provided in question). ELIMINATE wrong answers. (Compare your answer to the answer choices).
