2 History of the Sister Cities Advisory Board
1982 – 1st Sister Cities Agreement signed with Lerdo, Mexico 1992 – Sister Cities Advisory Committees established by ordinance Met April and August that year 1993 Sister Cities Agreement Signed with Nienburg, Germany 1994 – Ordinance revised to combine the two City committees into one Advisory Board group. MOU accomplished with the Sister Cities Foundation 1995 – Las recorded meeting of the Advisory Board

3 Ongoing progress of the Foundation
Without input from the City Board the foundation continued to pursue activities: Fundraising through Yard Sale, Golf Tournament, and Ren. Faire booth Official exchange trips to Lerdo, Mexico Visits from Lerdo and Nienburg officials Delegates attend annual International Sister Cities Conferences

4 Board Recruitment Efforts
To reconstruct the Board: Newspaper advertisements Radio spots Councillor requests of citizens Progress to date: 2 applicants for a 7 member board.

5 Proposal for future Revise Ordinance to eliminate the advisory board
Sister City changes (adding or deleting relationships cannot happen without Council approval – per the International By-laws) Designate a staff liaison to the Foundation (as is done for other organizations) Receive an annual report presentation to the Council of Sister City Foundation activity Continue to participate in International Sister Cities events (Conference 2010 is in Albuquerque!) Provide support for the program as desired by Mayor and Council within budgetary limits

6 Concensus Options Continue recruitment for Advisory Board
Eliminate Advisory Board with reporting and staff liaison directed Provide other options to staff and the Sister Cities Foundation Board Re-define meeting frequency and duties of the Board Change the composition of the Board Adjust for any other concerns/issues.
