Back up data regularly
Do not share passwords with friends
Make passwords hard to guess
Hardware on a firm surface
Lock laptops to the desk
Be sure your homeowner’s insurance covers using your school computer at home

4. Social networking dos and don’ts
Don’t believe everything you read.
Don’t avoid other things to be done.
Don’t badmouth other people.
Don’t accept people you don’t know as friends.
Practice positivity.
Pick a safe choice for your settings.
Use common sense when posting comments

5. Ethical use of internet material
Printed material must be cited: - Title, Author, Publisher, Year published, when it was accessed
Videos must be cited or used as follows:
Up to 3 minutes but no more than 10%
The clip cannot be changed

6. Music ethical use
Music should not be cut and pasted or used without giving credit to the source
Use music and images from Creative Commons or Royalty Free sites
Even better, have them create their own music

7. Copyright guidelines
We can use part of someone else’s work but have to give credit when we use too much
These works include Printed Material, Illustrations, Music, Video, Internet, Television
Some facts:
A single illustration is ok but not all works
Videos can be used in class by teachers and students can only use a portion of a video in their work
Up to10% of music from one artist can be used for school work
Images from the internet can be downloaded for schoolwork

There are several free sites that allow you to check students’ work
